The Love of Music is in the Air | February 2020 Update

Updated: Mar 10, 2020

A very happy February to you all from the Millennium Chamber Symphony. With winter weather bringing snow and freezing temperatures to people all over the US, the joy and love found through live music warms our hearts. It is a privilege to bring the warmth of music to the people of New York City and the world.

In January, MCS was delighted to feature pianist and composer Thomas Addison for the Millennium Chamber Symphony Music + Healing Series at Mt. Sinai Union Square. Thomas performed an eclectic program with pieces ranging from classical composers such as Bach, Chopin, Brahms, and Ravel to some classic movie themes, popular songs, and jazz pieces from composers such as Thelonious Monk.

The audience at Mt. Sinai thoroughly enjoyed the performance, stopping to thank Thomas for the music and sharing that his performance was beautifully done. The continuation of the Millennium Chamber Symphony Music + Healing Series promotes the MCS vision. Learn more on our website by clicking on How We Serve in the top bar.

Music for Refugees in Brownsville, TX

Coming up on Valentine's Day, Anna Maria Manalo (piano, violin, composer) will be performing for the refugee families in detentions centers in Brownsville, TX. Anna will be playing a traditional American and Latin inspired program. Through music we hope to inspire hope and provide a brief respite from the many troubles of these families.

Music's power to aid in healing and recovery has long been touted, with references to musical therapy in medical journals dating as far back as the late 1700's.

More recently, scientific studies have backed up these claims. In fact, a major 2015 USC study showed that music was associated with a 20% reduction in postoperative pain, a 10% reduction in anxiety and depression, and a significant reduction in the use of pain medication.

To help ensure this healing power reaches as many individuals as possible, Millennium Chamber Symphony runs a program titled "Music & Healing", which brings the gift of music to critical care patients at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital through monthly performances.

Thank you for your continued support, it is through music we are able to change the world.

"Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius."

-- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
